~This Week's Question:
Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate -- ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?
~My Answer:
Yes!! On many occasions. Each time its a bit different. Normally its a more tragic story when I think I will LOVE the book and THEN hating it. :/ Sad but true story. But the question isn't about that now is it?
Ok so for one I thought I would hate and then LOVED would have to be.....Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I hated the idea of a girl who committed suicide leaving people recordings of why she did it. It sounded so morbid and wrong. Then my cousin read it and told me it was a must and people...it is a MUST!!! It was SO SO good!! <3
And for one that I thought I would hate and indeed end up hating would be....Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. Totally dislike that book. Didn't finish the series. I had already bought the whole series when I started reading reviews so I started it very wary and ya...I had good reason to. Sorry all you Wolves of Mercy Falls fans!! Wish I could say different :/

I'm in two minds about shiver.

Wow, Shiver is getting hit up today. Eep. I have yet to read it, maybe I should just stay away. :/

I liked and disliked Thirteen Reasons Why for several reasons, though I never expected to not enjoy it. In the end, though, it felt a little.. dry at times. I don't know why. I actually enjoyed the Shiver series when I read it for the first time and still have one or two quotes from Forever (though they had nothing to do with the H/H) saved somewhere, but when I tried rereading the books, I suddenly couldn't stand anything anymore. D: It was an awful experience. /sighs
ReplyDeleteGreat answer, and now I actually want to know which books you thought you'd love and really hated! :D

Oh, no. I always try to resist purchasing a whole series before reading one book.

I also hated that book and could not get into it AT ALL. Totally relate to the whole 'thought I'd love it, but ended up hating it' thing to unfortunately! :) Great post and I'm a new Networked Blogs follower. Check me out at:

There seem to be a lot of people who hate Wolves of Mercy Falls. Maybe I would be one of them, too, but I actually picked up the audiobook version and totally fell in love with the speakers. They're really awesome. I'm about to listen to the last book soon.

I loved Thirteen Reasons Why! It was something different. Have you read Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver? :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I expect to love a book, and then end up hating it - oh my gosh it's so much worse than when I just end of disliking a book I had no expectations for. Being let down, sucks.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Thirteen Reasons Why, but its been on my raadar for awhile now. I just need to find the time :)
Good answer.

Hi!
ReplyDeleteJana @ A Novel Reality
So disappointed that you didn't love Shiver. Maggie is one of my fave authors (although that is my least favorite book of hers that I've read). I haven't read 13RW, but I've been meaning to. I've heard so many amazing things about it!

You know, I never even picked up Shiver because I was tapped out on the whole paranormal thing... so, good to know!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this other book though, but, I have to say, I'm more than a little intrigued.

I haven't read Thirteen Reasons Why for the same reason you didn't, but a lot of people like it. I don't like depressing books and it seemed like it was going to depress me a lot. And I agree about Maggie Stiefvater's wolves books; the first one was all right, the second was meh and the third one, especially the ending, was awful. Though I love the first one in her current series, The Raven Boys!
