{Follow Friday} #36

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

~This Week's Question:

What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?

~My Answer:
I hate cliches. Bad girl who rules the school and is out for the protagonist. Every now and then maybe but it has to have a strong story line and characters that really bring up the story. Because they are just that...cliche. Another thing is the answer to last weeks question..I hate when the authors go above and beyond with descriptive words...too above and too beyond where all its seems is like they are trying to make you notice their smarticles ;) And also when they use too many metaphors and when those metaphors get weird.

What about you?

  1. Ahh, the high school cliches are the worst! Occasionally, though, they can be done well, but for the most part, it's just kinda annoying to read about.

  9. Cliches, that I didn't think about that. It's indeed annoying. Great answer, old follower :)

  11. Good answer.

  12. You make me laugh. You hate cliches AND weird metaphors? ;) The irony is that people who use weird metaphors are often trying to avoid cliches. :D But I totally agree with you. I hate both of those things too.

  13. I'm with you on the cliches. Also in situations, such as the nerd girl getting the popular jock.

  14. I know what you mean about cliches. Sometimes I don't pay too much attention to them, but sometimes I find them very frustrating. I think it depends on what kind of book I am reading.

Something that I didn't think to add to my answer is that I hate it when authors (particularly women authors) state in their books the high school girls are catty. I mean, that is awful - totally stereotypical and degrading to women. And Cliche.

  15. Yeah, it's way to stereotypical. I want something new and refreshing :D

  16. Sometimes I can manage cliches, sometimes they don't bother me too much. But I agree with you, they can be a deal breaker.

I find it difficult to deal with too many point of views, too many characters in just a few pages and plot roles. Also I don’t find bad edited books very attractive, and this can turn out to be a deal breaker in the end. Love triangles I can deal, but I’m getting tired of reading the same things in romance books...
